Position:
The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position for an Assistant Professor of the History of Medicine in the Department of History beginning August 2025. All time periods and geographic areas of specialization are welcome.
Qualifications:
PhD in History or related fields required. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the ‘Instructor’ rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026. Research specialization in the history of medicine. Demonstrated excellence in teaching in applicant’s field of specialization. Demonstrated scholarship and active research agenda. Proven ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student body and to support the University’s Diversity Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop upper- and lower-level courses in the History of the Medicine as well as in their other areas of specialization. Towson University and the Department of History are transitioning to the research-intensive R2 status, and candidates will be expected to contribute to this move and to pursue grant-based scholarship as outlined in the University’s mission and strategic plan. The normal teaching load is 3-3, with a reduced 2-3 load for the first year and additional opportunities for reduced teaching load in future years. The successful candidate will commit to active participation and service to the department, college, and university.
