Postdoctoral Research Fellow: 'Renaissance Skin'- Fixed term position (36 months) at the Department of History, Kings College London
Call for Applications
Deadline for applications: 1st April 2017
The Department of History at Kings College is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Wellcome Trust funded research project ‘Renaissance Skin’, led by Professor Evelyn Welch (PI) with Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Hannah Murphy. This five-year grant studies the wide range of ways in which skin, both animal and human, was conceptualised and used in Europe between 1450 and 1700, a period of enormous change in terms of global contacts and connections and scientific innovation. The project team comprises three postdoctoral fellows (one five-year senior position and two three-year junior positions which will rotate over the five years) and a project manager who supports Professor Welch in producing the research outputs and organising events and activities associated with this project. This post is expected to begin between June and September 2017 (the third postdoctoral Fellow will be appointed in 2019).
The project is European-wide and to assist Professor Welch in her work, the postdoctoral fellows will collectively provide linguistic competencies in either Latin, Spanish, Dutch or Portuguese or other languages, apart from French and Italian, which would be of particular benefit to the project’s objectives. In addition to supporting Professor Welch’s work, the Fellow will also undertake their own associated research. They will be expected to make approximately three research trips per year (within Europe) and undertake any other reasonable duties associated with the project as required by the PI or SPDRF, or within the Department as required by the Head of Department. There will be opportunities to contribute to teaching, particularly at MA level. Applicants may specialise in any geographic area but should add competency to the research objectives of the project.
The selection process will include a panel interview, including a 10-minute presentation. Candidates selected for interview will be asked to supply two writing samples.
For an informal discussion please contact Dr Hannah Murphy (hannah.murphy@kcl.ac.uk). To apply for the role follow the link below: http://www.jobs.ac.uk/…/postdoctoral-research-fellow-renai…/
