Sydney Brenner Research Scholarship

Call for applications


The Genentech Center for the History of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Library & Archives is pleased to offer The Sydney Brenner Research Scholarship. It is awarded each year to a scholar, researcher, historian, or writer seeking to advance knowledge in the History of the Life Sciences. Topics may include but are not limited to molecular biology, genetics, cancer research, neuroscience, and biotechnology. A stipend of up to $10,000, is provided to fund expenses associated with his/her research. The fund was established in 2006, by Dr. Philip Goelet, to pay tribute to his mentor, Nobel Laureate Dr. Sydney Brenner.

The CSHL Archives houses collections of unique original materials on some of the most important topics and figures in the life sciences, including James D. Watson, Sydney Brenner, Barbara McClintock, Alfred Hershey, and others. With the use of our collections, past recipients have produced biographies; books on the history of science; film documentaries; and a multimedia exhibition.
