This one-day workshop will include talks from leading international experts on First World War nursing, an opportunity to ask questions and share findings from local projects featuring nurses, and an illustrated talk by Dick Robinson about the diaries of Edie Appleton, First World War nurse. Includes lunch and refreshments. Anybody interested in First World War nursing, or who would like to find out more, is welcome to attend. Attendance is free but you need to register here.

4-5 Dick Robinson, ‘Sister Edith Appleton – Front Line nurse and diarist in the Great War’

Edith Appleton served in Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve (QAIMNSR) throughout the First World War. Often near the Front in Northern France, she wrote an amazing daily journal. Her website is at www.anurseatthefront.org.uk/ and “A Nurse at the Front – The First World War Diaries of Sister Edith Appleton” was published by the Imperial War Museum with Simon & Schuster in March 2012. The presentation, by Edie’s great nephew, Dick Robinson, tells her story with extracts from the diaries read by Dick’s wife, Lisa, and is fully illustrated. Copies of the book will be available at a discounted price.
