Histoire des sourds

International History of the Deaf conference in Warsaw

 November 30th - December 1st 2013.

The conference will be devoted to matters of everyday life of the Deaf community at the turn of the XIX and XX century, as well as the activities of various non-government organizations working to support the aforementioned community in that time period, to juxtapose and show the pressing issues. Biographies of the Deaf community activists who fight for a better tomorrow and respect will also be presented. The aim of the whole conference will be to respect the activists and their friends, who have built a cultural and societal heritage, thanks who whom we enjoy a “better” life today. We also want to promote a multi-cultural dialogue between the world of the Deaf and the hearing which are deeply connected, and the tradition and a multicultural quality languages and cultures of Europe.
During the conference an artistic-historic exposition is also planned, concerning the lives of the Deaf at the turn of the XIX and XX century. The exposition will showcase photographs, drawings, and paintings made by Deaf artists.
