RCPI History of Medicine Research Award

Call for applications

We are accepting applications for the third annual RCPI History of Medicine Research Award. The closing date for applications is Friday 13 September 2013.

The RCPI History of Medicine Research Award was introduced by our Heritage Centre in 2011 to support the study of history of medicine in Ireland and promote the use of our unique library, archive and heritage collections.

Last year’s award was won by Dr Anne Mac Lellan, who presented a paper entitled “Victims or Vector? Tubercular Irish nurses in England 1930-1960”. You can watch all presentations from the previous two years of this award on theRCPI Player.
Who can apply?

This award is open to all researchers in the field of the history of medicine in Ireland, as well as related social and cultural history fields.
The prize

The winning applicant will receive €250. The winner of this year’s History of Medicine Research Award will be announced on at a public Heritage Centre event during our St Luke’s Day Symposium.

The judging process commences in September, and will conclude with four finalists presenting their 15 minute research papers to an adjudication panel on Wednesday 16 October 2013 at a public Heritage Centre event during our St Luke’s Day Symposium.

At the same event a number of shortlisted runners-up will be asked to present their research as posters, which will be on display during the event. There will also be a small award for the best poster selected by the judges.
How to apply

You must submit an abstract based on your research (maximum 800 words) and a copy of your CV to the Heritage Centre. The closing date for applications is Friday 13 September 2013.

Rules for applicants
Research must be unpublished and must have been undertaken in the last 3 years.
Research which has been submitted for publication will be considered, but details should be given of when and where it has been submitted, and if it has been accepted for publication.
