The Department of the History of Science and Technology at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position (open rank) in the history of pre-modern science (antiquity to ca. 1700) focusing on the European area, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. Candidates should have an outstanding scholarly record and teaching experience, or show significant promise of excellence in academic research, publication, and teaching. The position involves teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as the supervision of graduate students in our Ph.D. program. Candidates must be able to teach one or both of our core undergraduate survey courses in the history of pre-modern science (“Antiquity to Renaissance” and/or “Scientific Revolution”) along with the parallel graduate seminars that prepare Ph.D. students for qualifying exams. A Ph.D. is required, but we will accept applications from doctoral students expected to fulfill Ph.D. degree requirements by July 1, 2023.
