We are hiring a PhD student in the History of Science, History of Technology and/or Environmental History of the 19th or 20th century. The position is available from 1 June 2026. We welcome applications from individuals with a master's degree in history or related fields and an interest in independent research.
The position offers ample research time in a stimulating environment, transparent supervision structures provided by Professor Dania Achermann and Professor Caspar Hirschi, and space for your own ideas and projects. In addition to working on your dissertation, the job description includes a limited amount of assistant and teaching supervision tasks. There is also the possibility of additional paid teaching. The position is initially limited to three years and can be extended for a further two years after successful completion of the pre-study.
The dissertation can be written in English or German, but German language skills are required for active participation within the department.
