Postdoctoral Fellowship in Histories of Health Professions Education

The Wilson Centre at the University Health Network/Temerty Faculty of Medicine is seeking candidates from the history discipline who are engaged in scholarly research on topics related to health care and/or education for a postdoctoral fellowship position. The position will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to participant in an intellectually stimulating environment, active Wilson Centre community, and specialized fellowship training.
Research Project Overview
As a network of merged hospitals, the University Health Network (UHN) is one of the largest and oldest health care institutions in Canada. In recognition of the approaching bicentennial of one of its founding institutions, Toronto General Hospital, the Wilson Centre is seeking interested candidates with a background in historical research to join a project team examining the history of the present-day UHN. The central task of the successful candidate will be two-fold. First, the successful candidate will examine some aspect of the history of health professions education within UHN. The final subject will be agreed upon with the candidate’s supervisor. Second, the successful candidate with assist the project team to assess the UHN archives and contribute to a finding aid to support the writing of a larger UHN history.
Duties
• Will conduct research on the history of health professions education at UHN and prepare a manuscript for publication.
• Will contribute to the project team in the planning of a larger UHN history manuscript.
• Will contribute to the study of history at the Wilson Centre.
• Will contribute to the preparation of one or more history grants (for example Tri-Council Grant, AMS)
• Will attend and participate in activities and other relevant events held at UHN and Out as appropriate.
• Will participate in the Wilson Centre Fellowship Program, including in-person attendance as per fellowship expectations.
Terms
This temporary, full-time position for one year. The anticipated start date will be January 2025. The value of the fellowship is between $60,000- $65,000 (to commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy).

Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in history or a related field within the last five years
- Knowledge of education scholarship and health professions research an asset.
