Position Overview:
AMS Healthcare is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Fellow in the History of Healthcare for a one-year, part-time role. The Fellow will play a critical role in advancing AMS’s mission by assessing and enhancing programming related to the history of healthcare, with a special emphasis on the intersection of technology and medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide a written synthesis of the last 5-10 years of Canadian scholarship (including publications and works in progress) that explores the intersection of technology, technological advancements and their impacts on medicine and healthcare within an historical framework. The product of this synthesis could be either a review essay/report or a chapter length piece of writing.
•Program Development and Collaboration: Work closely with the AMS Healthcare staff to identify and foster potential bridging activities between the AMS’s two programs (1) the history of healthcare and (2) technology. Identify low-cost, high-value programming opportunities that can enhance the visibility and impact of this intersection. This may include workshops, webinars, or other innovative initiatives.
•Reporting and Recommendations: Develop and present a detailed report with actionable recommendations for AMS Healthcare to enhance its support for the history of healthcare in Canada, with a focus on sustainable, impactful programs.
Qualifications:
•Ph.D. in History, History of Medicine, or a related field with a focus on healthcare or medical history.
•Demonstrated interest or experience in the intersection of technology and healthcare history.
•Proven track record of research and scholarship in the history of healthcare.
•Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and synthesize information from multiple sources.
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Experience with program development or project management is an asset.
