Décerné chaque année, comprend deux catégories :

1. Sciences médicales ;

2. Sciences humaines en lien avec la médecine.

Il récompense des thèses, mémoires de master ou diplômes universitaires, consacrés à l’histoire de la médecine, publiés en langue française, durant les 24 mois précédant le mois d’octobre de l’année en cours

Prix SFHM-Académie nationale de médecine

Depuis 1995, la Société française d’histoire de la médecine et l’Académie nationale de médecine décernent chaque année le Prix SFHM-ANM d’Histoire de la Médecine à un ouvrage consacré à l’histoire de la médecine, publié en langue française dans l’année précédente et jusqu’au 15 février de l’année en cours.

Prix Jean-Charles Sournia de la SFHM 

Le Prix Sournia de la SFHM, créé en 2006 en mémoire de notre ancien président, le Professeur Jean-Charles Sournia, est destiné à récompenser, tous les deux ans, un travail de recherche original dans le domaine de l’histoire des sciences médicales, rédigé en français et émanant d’un « chercheur international étranger âgé de moins de 40 ans ». Les dossiers de candidature doivent être adressés avant le 30 septembre.

La Revue canadienne d’histoire de la santé (RCHS) | Canadian Journal of Health History (CJHS) invite les étudiant·es (tous cycles confondus, ainsi que les étudiant·e·s en médecine) à soumettre un article dans le cadre du Prix commémoratif Georgina-Feldberg en histoire de la santé et de la médecine. Professeure dévouée, spécialiste de l’histoire sociale de la médecine, de la santé publique et des questions de genre dans les politiques relatives à la maladie, la Dre Feldberg croyait fermement que l’histoire joue un rôle essentiel dans l’élaboration des politiques publiques. La communauté savante de l’histoire de la santé et de la médecine a perdu une voix importante lors de son départ prématuré en 2010.

Le Prix commémoratif Feldberg est décerné chaque année au meilleur article inédit traitant d’un sujet en histoire de la santé et de la médecine. Les soumissions peuvent inclure tout milieu géographique et tout type de contenu en lien avec le champ en question. Les étudiant·es inscit·es à programmes connexes sont admissibles, mais tous les textes doivent développer une problématique historiographique pertinente.

Le lauréat ou la lauréate recevra 500 $ et une adhésion d’un an à la SCHM-CSHM (Société canadienne d’histoire de la médecine-Canadian Society for the History of Medicine), ce qui comprend un abonnement à la RCHS | CJHH. Les finalistes pourraient être invité·es par les éditrices de la revue à soumettre leur article à la RCHS | CJHH pour publication, sous réserve d’une évaluation positive par les pairs.

Admissibilité : Les candidat·es doivent être membres de la CSHM-SCHM au moment de la rencontre annuelle. Les textes, rédigés en anglais ou en français, doivent être conformes au protocole de rédaction de la revue. Les candidat·es doivent être étudiant·es au moment du dépôt de leur article au Prix. Les textes soumis doivent être inédits et ne pas avoir été proposés ailleurs en vue d’une publication. Les textes doivent comporter de 6 000 à 8 000 mots, citations comprises.

Georgina Feldberg Memorial Student Award

Call to Submit Essay

The Canadian Journal of Health History | Revue canadienne d’histoire de la santé invites students (including undergraduate, graduate, and medical students) to submit essays for the Georgina Feldberg Memorial Student Award in the History of Health and Medicine. Dr. Feldberg was a dedicated teacher and scholar of social history of medicine, public health, and the gendered politics of disease, who firmly believed that history has an important role to play in shaping public policy. The history of health and medicine community lost an important voice when Dr. Feldberg died far too young in 2010.

The Feldberg Memorial Award will be granted annually to the best unpublished essay based on original research on any topic within the history of health and medicine. Essays are not restricted by geography or time period. Students in related disciplines are eligible to apply, but all essays must include a clear historical argument and engage with the relevant historiography.

The winner will receive $500 and a year’s membership with the CSHM-SCHM (Canadian Society for the History of Medicine – Société canadienne d’histoire de la médecine), which includes a subscription to the CJHH | RCHS. Finalists may be encouraged by the journal editors to have their submissions considered for publication in the CJHH | RCHS, subject to its peer review process.

Eligibility: Applicants should be members of the CSHM-SCHM at the time of the CSHM Annual Meeting. Essays can be written in either English or French and must conform to the CJHH | RCHS style guide. Applicants must be students at the time of submission, but the competition is open to students in different disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Submissions must be based on original research and not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions must be between 6,000 and 8,000 words in length, including citations. Applicants should consult the CJHH style guide before submitting their work.

Students are invited to submit essays via email to cjhh.rchs@gmail.com. Please direct inquiries about this award to co-editor of the CJHH | RCHS, Dr. Caroline Lieffers (cjhh.rchs@gmail.com).

The deadline for submissions is  1st of May 2026. All submissions will be evaluated by the Feldberg Award Committee. Winners will be announced at the CSHM-SCHM Annual Meeting, 21-22 May 2026.

Modalités du Prix de thèse

Outre la qualité du travail de recherche produit, les critères de valorisation des thèses demeurent les mêmes que les années précédentes :
1) le lien thématique de la thèse avec le programme scientifique du GESTES (travail ou santé au travail) et
2) le caractère interdisciplinaire de la thèse.


Les candidatures doivent être envoyées à l’adresse gestes@mshparisnord.fr au plus tard le mardi 15 juillet 2025. Les pièces à produire pour la constitution d’un dossier de candidature valide sont les suivantes : Un résumé de la thèse (entre 15 000 et 20 000 signes espaces compris) mettant en évidence le degré d’interdisciplinarité du travail doctoral. Cette interdisciplinarité peut concerner l’objet d’étude ou les méthodes. Elle peut prendre une forme institutionnelle (direction de la thèse, membres du jury…). Elle peut également se manifester dans la revue de littérature, organisant un dialogue avec des publications d’autres disciplines.
Une copie du rapport de soutenance.

Les thèses candidates peuvent avoir été soutenues dans tout établissement d’enseignement supérieur français et doivent l’avoir été au cours de l’année civile précédant celle de l’attribution du Prix.

La récompense consiste en un chèque de 1500 euros pour la/le lauréat·e.

The Historical Library of the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library at Yale University is pleased to announce its third annual Stanley B. Burns M.D. Fellowship for the Study of Medical Photographic History, which supports the study of the history of medical photography at Yale, maximizing the research potential of the Stanley B. Burns, MD, Historic Medical Photography Collection and related visual collections at the Medical Historical Library.

Burns—an ophthalmologist, research professor of Medicine and Psychiatry, and professor of Medical Humanities at New York University—began collecting historic photography in 1975 and amassed more than a million images that he curated in multiple books, articles, and exhibitions.

There is a single award of up to $2,000 for one week of research during the academic fiscal year July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026. Funds may be used for transportation, housing, food, and photographic reproductions. The award is limited to residents of the United States and Canada. Applicants should send a completed application form, including a curriculum vitae and a description of the project including the relevance of the collections of the Historical Library to the project, and two references attesting to the particular project. Preference will be given to applicants beyond commuting distance to the Historical Library. Applications are due by April 27th, 2025 at midnight. Le Comité d’histoire des administrations chargées de la santé (CHAS) lance la première édition du Prix de la médiation scientifique et culturelle pour encourager et récompenser des initiatives innovantes qui rendent accessibles les connaissances scientifiques relatives à l’histoire des actions, des politiques et des administrations chargées de la santé.

1re édition du Prix de la médiation scientifique et culturelle du CHAS, 2025-2026 : appel à concourir

Créé par arrêté ministériel le 11 mars 2024 et présidé par Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, le CHAS a pour mission de retracer l’histoire des politiques publiques de santé, d’encourager la recherche et la diffusion des connaissances, et d’organiser des événements sur l’évolution des politiques sanitaires, notamment en matière de gestion des crises.

Le Prix de la médiation scientifique et culturelle du CHAS porte le nom de Germaine Poinso-Chapuis, première femme à détenir un ministère à part entière, qui plus est en tant que ministre de la Santé, dont l’engagement visionnaire pour la santé publique et la protection de l’enfance incarne les valeurs de transmission, d’innovation et de dialogue au cœur de la médiation scientifique. Son parcours illustre la force des convictions mises au service de l’intérêt général, inspirant ainsi les initiatives qui visent à rapprocher l’histoire de la société.

Ce prix vise à reconnaître les efforts des jeunes chercheurs et des collectifs de jeunes chercheurs qui, par leurs réalisations, établissent un pont entre la recherche scientifique et la société, dans un esprit de vulgarisation et de transmission.

La médiation scientifique et culturelle, en favorisant une meilleure compréhension des enjeux historiques et sociaux de la santé, constitue un levier essentiel pour renforcer le dialogue entre le monde académique, les institutions et le grand public.

Le Prix de la médiation scientifique et culturelle vise à récompenser des projets de médiation scientifique et culturelle originaux à fort rayonnement et conçus pour atteindre un public diversifié. Les types de contributions éligibles incluent par exemple (liste non exhaustive ni limitative) : Expositions physiques ou numériques ;
Podcasts éducatifs visant à vulgariser des savoirs complexes ;
Applications mobiles ou plateformes pédagogiques innovantes ;
Vidéos pédagogiques ou documentaires accessibles au grand public ; etc.

Pour cette édition, le Prix est doté d’une somme totale de 3 000 €, répartie comme suit : 

2 000 € pour le lauréat :
1 000 € pour un « prix spécial du jury », décerné à la discrétion de ce dernier pour honorer un projet se démarquant notamment par son originalité.

Les lauréats seront retenus après les délibérations du jury, composé de membres du CHAS et de personnalités scientifiques spécialisées en médiation et histoire des politiques de santé.

Les jeunes chercheurs ou collectifs souhaitant concourir doivent : 

• Être étudiant en master, doctorant ou diplômé de master ou doctorat depuis moins de cinq ans ;
• Soumettre un projet de médiation scientifique et culturelle tel qu’une exposition interactive, un podcast éducatif, une application pédagogique ou toute autre initiative visant un public diversifié ;
• Transmettre l’ensemble des pièces indiquées dans le règlement du Prix de la médiation scientifique et culturelle par voie électronique.

Les prix seront remis en mars 2026 lors d’une cérémonie officielle organisée par le CHAS.

Comme chaque année, fidèle à sa mission d’encouragement et de promotion des études relatives à l’histoire des sciences et des techniques, la Société française d'histoire des sciences et des techniques (SFHST) récompense des travaux de recherche dans ces domaines.


En 2025, le Prix de thèse de la SFHST sera décerné à la meilleure thèse soutenue en histoire des sciences et des techniques entre le 1er janvier et le 31 décembre 2024 et rédigée en langue française. Il sera doté d’un montant de 1 000 €.

Les candidats désireux de concourir doivent envoyer au plus tard le 31 mai 2025 un mail à prixdethese.sfhst@gmail.com pour faire part de leur intention.

STAND ECS Prize

The Commission on Science, Technology and Diplomacy (STAND) recognizes outstanding papers by early career scholars addressing the history of science, technology and medicine in their international contexts. Since the inaugural award was announced in 2022, the annual STAND ECS award aims to provide support and recognition for fresh voices in the field.

Topics might include, but are not limited to: science diplomacy, international cooperation in fields related to science, technology or medicine, and the transnational circulation of technoscientific and medical knowledge, materials, and expertise. The annual STAND ECS award aims to provide support and recognition for fresh voices in the field.

Candidates must have recently been awarded a PhD (within the previous 8 years) or must be enrolled in a PhD program. We particularly encourage submissions from groups and regions underrepresented in the aforementioned research themes/areas.


2025 STAND ECS Prize

The award consists of a cash prize of 500 USD and comes with the chance to present the winning paper at a virtual seminar. The award winner will be announced at the beginning of 2025. The prize committee of the Commission will consider in their reflection on entries the following: academic quality, methodological innovation, clarity in expression, and the integration of novel historical perspectives on science, technology, and medicine in their interplay with diplomatic history and the history of international relations.

Submissions should be in the form of an essay of 7,000 to 10,000 words (including citations and references). Entries should be of work not previously published.

Deadline for submission is Friday 20 December 2024

IUHPST Essay Prize in History and Philosophy of Science

The International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPST) invites submissions for the 2025 IUHPST Essay Prize in History and Philosophy of Science. This biennial prize competition seeks to encourage fresh methodological thinking on the history and philosophy of science and related areas.

For this round of the competition, we invite entries, in the form of an essay of 5,000–10,000 words written in English, addressing persistent methodological challenges in integrated history and philosophy of science. Examples of questions that entries may address include:

· What is the role of case studies?

· Is current science so different from old science that history is irrelevant to philosophy?

· How does philosophical pluralism/monism affect the historiography of science?

· Is “scientific revolution” dead as a framing device for the history of science?

Entries may answer one of these questions or a variation thereof; they may also address another persistent methodological challenge in integrated HPS.

All entries should consist of original work that has not previously been published. Entries written originally in another language should be submitted in English translation, along with the name and contact details of the translator. Entries will be judged on the following criteria, in addition to general academic quality: direct engagement with the prize topic, effective integration of historical and philosophical perspectives, and potential to provide methodological guidance for other researchers in the field.

The author of the winning entry will be invited to present the work at the 27th International Congress of History of Science and Technology in Dunedin, New Zealand, June 29 to July 5, 2025. Presenting at the Congress will be a condition of the award.

The award will carry a cash prize of 1,000 US dollars and a waiver of the Congress registration fee.

Other strong entries will also be considered for presentation at the Congress. In order to ensure this consideration, entrants should submit the entry also as a standalone paper abstract for the Congress by the deadline for that (December 1, 2024), following the standard instructions indicated on the Congress website: https://www.ichst2025.org/call-for-stand-alone-papers

Entries are invited from anyone, without restriction of age, nationality, or academic status. Co-authored work will be considered; if the winning entry is a co-authored work the cash prize will be shared among the authors. This prize is administered by the Joint Commission of the IUHPST, whose remit is to make links between the work of the two Divisions of the IUHPST: the DHST (Division of History of Science and Technology) and the DLMPST (Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology). The German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker - GDCh) and the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry (Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft für Physikalische Chemie - DBG) invite proposals for the Paul Bunge Prize 2025.

The Paul Bunge Prize honours outstanding research publications on all aspects of the history of scientific instruments. The prize is endowed with 7.500 Euro. It is awarded for either individual books or papers published within the last five years or for lifetime achievements. Submitted works may be published in English, German or French.


Both self-applications and nominations are accepted. Both should include the publications to be considered, a curriculum vitae and a full list of publications. The Advisory Board of the Hans R. Jenemann Foundation will decide on the prize winner.


Submit your application or nomination, including cover letter, CV and publications on the history of scientific instruments, by September 30, 2024, via the online form at www.gdch.de/paulbungepreis or to j.herr@gdch.de. Sigerist prize 2024

The Swiss Society for the History of Medicine and Science invites applications for the Henry-E.-Sigerist-Prize for the promotion of early career scholars in the history of medicine and science.


The prize was founded in 1967 by Mr. and Mrs. Guggenheim-Schnurr from Basel in order to award outstanding young scholars in the field of history of medicine and science. It is conferred by a jury on behalf of the Swiss Society of the History of Medicine and Sciences.

Applicants should submit studies completed within the last two years, i.e. 

dissertations
printed books
other significant scientific works.

The texts have to be written in German, French, Italian or English and to be related to Switzerland by content, authorship or institution. Work which has previously been awarded a prize is not eligible. Postdoctoral candidates should have received their doctoral degree within the last 8 years. Dissertations and books have to be accompanied by a summary of no more than five pages.

The prize amounts to CHF 2000.

En 2024, le Prix de thèse de la SFHST sera décerné à la meilleure thèse soutenue en histoire des sciences et des techniques, entre le 1er janvier et le 31 décembre 2023 et rédigée en langue française. Competition for the 2024 Trevor Levere Prize (Annals of Science) is now open. This prize is awarded annually to the author of an original, unpublished essay in the history of science, technology, or medicine, which is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The prize, which is supported by Taylor & Francis, is intended for those who are currently doctoral students, or have been awarded their doctorate within the past four years. The winning essay is published in the Journal, and the author awarded US$1000 and a free subscription to the Annals of Science. The German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker- GDCh) and the German
Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry (Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft für Physikalische
Chemie) invite proposals for the Paul Bunge Prize 2024.

The Paul Bunge Prize honours outstanding research publications on all aspects of the
history of scientific instruments. The prize is endowed with 7.500 Euro. It is awarded for
either individual books or papers published within the last five years or for lifetime
achievements. Submitted works may be published in English, German or French.

Both self-applications and nominations are accepted. Both should include the publications
to be considered, a curriculum vitae and a full list of publications. The Advisory Board of
the Hans R. Jenemann Foundation will decide on the prize winner.

Submit your application or nomination, including cover letter, CV and publications on the
history of scientific instruments, by September 30, 2023 via the online form at
www.gdch.de/paulbungepreis or to j.herr@gdch.de. Though digital versions are explicitly

Sigerist Prize for the History of Medicine and Science, 2023


Call for applications 

The Swiss Society for the History of Medicine and Science invites applications for the Henry-E.-Sigerist-Prize for the promotion of young scholars in the history of medicine and science.



Presentation

The prize was founded in 1967 by Mr. and Mrs Guggenheim-Schnurr from Basel in order to award outstanding young scholars in the field of history of medicine and science.

Applicants should submit studies completed within the last two years, i.e. phd and habilitation dissertations
printed books
works of another kind which have been selected by the jury or proposed to it.

The texts must be written either in German, French, Italian or English and related to Switzerland by content, authorship, institution or topic. Work which has previously been awarded a prize is not eligible. Candidates doctors should not have defended their thesis more than 8 years previously. The prize amounts to CHF 2000.- (approx. EUR 2000)

Prix Georgina Feldberg

Georgina Feldberg Award

The Canadian Journal of Health History invites students to submit essays for the Georgina Feldberg Memorial Student Award in the History of Health and Medicine. Dr. Feldberg was a dedicated teacher and scholar of social history of medicine, public health, and the gendered politics of disease, who firmly believed that history has an important role to play in shaping public policy. The history of health and medicine community lost an important voice when Dr. Feldberg died far too young in 2010.

The Feldberg Memorial Award will be granted annually to the best unpublished essay based on original research on any topic within the history of health and medicine. Essays are not restricted by geography or time period. Students in related disciplines are eligible to apply, but all essays must include a clear historical argument and engage with the relevant historiography.

The winner will receive $500 and a year’s membership with the CSHM-SCHM, which includes a subscription to the CJHH. Finalists may be encouraged to have their submissions considered for publication in the CJHH, subject to our peer review process.

Eligibility: Applicants must be current members of the CJHH. Essays can be written in either English or French and must conform to the CJHH style guide. Applicants must be students at the time of submission, but the competition is open to students in different disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Submissions must be based on original research and not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions must be between 6,000 and 8,000 words in length, including citations. Applicants should consult the CJHH style guide before submitting their work.

All submissions must be received through the CJHH ScholarOne Manuscripts system. Indicate clearly in your submission that you would like your manuscript considered for the Georgina Feldberg Student Award. Please direct inquiries about this award or how to submit to the co-editors of the CJHH.

The next deadline for applications is April 14, 2023.

All submissions will be evaluated by the Feldberg Award Committee.

Winners will be announced at the CJHH annual meeting in May/June.

Le prix d'Histoire sociale est décerné par la Fondation Mattei Dogan et la Fondation Maison des sciences de l'homme à deux thèses de doctorat d'excellence traitant d’un sujet d’histoire sociale, dans le sens le plus large du terme, du XIXe au XXIe siècle, et portant : l’une sur la France
l’autre sur un ou plusieurs pays étrangers ou un sujet transnational.

Modalités d'attribution

Le prix récompense deux thèses de doctorat soutenues (seules ou en cotutelle) dans un établissement d’enseignement supérieur français pendant les deux ans qui précédent l’année d’attribution.

Pour l'édition 2023, les thèses auront été soutenues entre le 1er janvier 2021 et le 31 décembre 2022.

Le montant du prix est de 3 000€ par lauréat.

2022 Medical Humanities Early Career Foundation Awards

Call for applications

The Glasgow Medical Humanities Network is a Wellcome Trust supported initiative that promotes closer strategic co-ordination in the city’s centres of excellence in medical humanities.

The Early Career Foundation Awards are small grants (up to £1000) intended to support Early Career Researchers in research and knowledge exchange activities that enhance medical humanities in Glasgow, and which offer potential for future development by the applicant.

As well as requesting a range of research expenses, applicants may request a personal bursary of up to £600. We envisage the optional bursary as targeted to PhDs/ECRs in casual, part-time, portfolio and/or precarious employment. We will though consider every application for the bursary on individual merit.

Applications are open to applicants from anywhere in the UK, within or outside of Glasgow. There is no requirement of any previous connection to the city’s universities and collections.

Applicants should normally be Early Career Researchers who are of postdoctoral standing (or in the final year of a PhD) but not in a permanent post. This scheme does not operate a postdoctoral ‘cut off’ point (e.g. three years post-PhD), so applicants are eligible if not in permanent academic employment, regardless of when they finished their PhD.

We also welcome applicants whose research trajectory does not follow the standard academic path (e.g. creative writers, artists, performers, clinicians, and others). Contact the Network Director for advice.

The 2022 round is now open for projects which are to be completed by 31 December 2022. Foundation Award activities may be carried out virtually, without the applicant being present in the city. The applicant should though ensure that the project is viable and completable.
