Poste en histoire des sciences à St.Gallen

Associate Professor of the History of Science (100%, with Tenure)

Call for applications

«A place where knowledge is created» – As a leading business university we set global standards for research and teaching by promoting integrative thought, responsible action and an entrepreneurial spirit of innovation in business and society.

This new position is attached to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of St.Gallen. The successful candidate will take up their position on 1 August 2023.

The SHSS is seeking to appoint a candidate whose research and teaching are oriented towards the 20th and 21st centuries. “Science” is to be understood in the comprehensive sense of “Wissenschaften”. The postholder may focus on any area of science, broadly construed, including the medical, social, economic, environmental, engineering and computational sciences. We are also interested in candidates whose work considers the tension between science, technology, society and economy, as evident, for instance, in digitisation, in the resistance to science, in the climate movement, in the start-up scene or in the consulting industry.

Requirements: The postholder must have completed an excellent doctoral dissertation and habilitation thesis (or provide evidence of an equivalent academic achievement). We also expect an outstanding track record in research and teaching.

Applicants are expected to be willing to teach at the BA, MA and PhD levels, especially in the Contextual Studies Programme, which is central to the University of St.Gallen’s integrative approach. The teaching load of this full-time position is 8 hours per week.

The University’s official language is German. The postholder is expected to acquire a passive understanding of German within two years of their appointment.

The University of St.Gallen is committed to promoting equal opportunities and diversity. We explicitly encourage women and members of underrepresented groups to apply.

Enquiries should be addressed to Prof. Dr. Caspar Hirschi, Chair of the Appointments Commit-tee (facultyposition@unisg.ch).

Applications should include a cover letter and the usual supporting documents (CV, list of publications, teaching evaluations, teaching and research statement, but no copies of publications and references). They should be submitted online via http://www.unisg.ch/professorships at the latest by 15 August 2022. Research talks are expected to take place in calendar week 43.
