This professorship should be seen in the context of Technische Universität Berlin’s goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is initially limited to three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon the postholder’s performance and agreement. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong professorship will be offered conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. Work­ing field:

The position holder should represent the field of history of science in research and teaching and actively participate in interdisciplinary collaborations within the Institute, the Faculty and the University. In research she*he shall have a focus in the field of the history of natural sciences from the early modern period onwards and shall resonate with the profile of the Institute, the Faculty and the University. Lecturing has to cover the field of History of Science in all epochs, both in the Bachelor program “Culture and Technology” (core subject: History of Science and Technology) and the Master program “Theory and History of Science and Technology”.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in the ongoing development of teaching programs, in interdisciplinary teaching and in teaching co-operations with the other fields represented inside the Institute. Ability and willingness to teach in English and, if applicable, a willingness to acquire very good German language skills are expected. Participation in academic self-administration is taken for granted.
Before the interim evaluation, teaching responsibilities amount to 4 hours of lectures and seminars per week, after the interim evaluation to 6 hours of lectures and seminars per week.
 

Require­ments:

The candidate must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section 102c Berlin State Higher Education Act in combination with Section 102a Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a university degree, a strong aptitude for academic research demonstrated, as a rule, by an outstanding doctorate in the field of history of science and exemplified in an excellent research proposal as well as teaching skills demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (for further information about the portfolio, see Technische Universität Berlin’s website, https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/einrichtungen/praesidium/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/bewerbung/lehrportfolio/parameter/en/ or quick access 144242). 

Candidates should demonstrate interest in cooperating with colleagues in the natural and/or environmental sciences. Experience in interdisciplinary research and networks to these fields will be an advantage. The willingness to collaborate closely with the other disciplines of the Institute is expected. The candidate is also expected to participate in the “Berlin Center for History of Knowledge”, a cooperation of several Berlin institutions. It is expected that the candidate will develop an international profile within the duration of the junior professorship. In the context of strategic internationalization, the ability to teach in English is a prerequisite for the hiring of future position holders.
The assumption of responsibility for leadership and management of a department and its employees as well as the ability to promote junior scholars and women are required, as are gender and diversity skills and active commitment to knowledge and technology transfer and science communication.
