What was the connection between the 1919 General Strike and the influenza pandemic that killed over 1,200 Winnipeggers in the winter of 1918-1919? This talk by Dr. Esyllt Jones of the University of Manitoba will examine the interaction between health inequality, the differential impacts of the pandemic, and the emergence of a general strike and sympathy movement in the spring of 1919.

June marks the 101st anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike. The Manitoba Museum’s exhibit Strike 1919: Divided City runs until January 2021.
