The Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) with more than 5.500 employees and about 8.000 students is one of the largest academic medical schools in the EU area. At the Organisational Unit Ethics, Collections and History of Medicine of the MedUni Vienna a Professorship Position for „History of Medicine with particular consideration of Contemporary History of Medicine“ according to § 99 (1) Universitätsgesetz (UG) 2002 is available, starting January 1st, 2020. The appointment is made for a period of three years.

The Organisational Unit Ethics, Collections and History of Medicine is located at the Josephinum, a historical building where the collections of the MedUni Vienna are stored. Currently this building is closed for several years due to maintenance works. The MedUni Vienna aims to increase the proportion of women in executive positions and therefore expressly invites qualified female candidates to apply.

Specific Requirements

Employment requirements:

• Doctoral degree in historical science or a corresponding foreign university degree in the relevant field of specialization;
• Qualification as a specialist in the field of History of Medicine, in particular Contemporary History of Medicine;
• Evidence of the successful acquisition of competitive third-party funds;
• Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation;
• Educational and didactic qualification (evaluation results regarding teaching activities);
• Competence in gender issues;
• Media competence and experience in popularisation of scientific findings;
• Experience with historical exhibitions, collections and archive studies;
• International experience.

Applicants are expected to have competence in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration within the research focus described in the University's Development Plan, integration of medical-historical topics into teaching, commitment to result orientation and obligation to develop personal management skills.
