Applications are invited from highly capable and enthusiastic candidates with well-developed research skills, excellent team working and digital literacy to contribute to an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded research project, 'Forged by Fire: Burns Injury and Identity in Britain, c.1800-2000'. This project started in September 2016 and runs for four years. This post is full-time and available for two years from September 2018 and is due to end on 31 August 2020.

You will be supervised by Dr Shane Ewen (Co-Investigator), and will be based in the School of Cultural Studies & Humanities and its Centre for Culture and the Arts in Leeds. You will also work with 'Forged by Fire' colleagues based at the University of Birmingham, specifically Professor Jonathan Reinarz (Principal Investigator) and Dr Rebecca Wynter (Postdoctoral Research Fellow).

You will contribute to ongoing research, dissemination and engagement activities, and play a critical role in shaping the second-half of the project. This includes leading on the digital mapping of burns incidents across three case study cities - Birmingham, Glasgow and London - practical experience of historical GIS is essential. Travel to these sites, and archives in other locations, will be part of the duties. You will co-organise at least one themed conference at Leeds Beckett. You will join the rest of the team undertaking archival research, oral history interviews, transcribing interviews, co-writing articles and other research outputs, and contributing to public engagement activities with our partners in the burns and fire and rescue sectors, including some work with school children. The post will suit a researcher with knowledge of modern British urban history, historical geography, and/or medical history, seeking to gain experience from working as part of a collaborative project and consolidate expertise in GIS and the digital humanities.
