St John's College is looking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to assist in the consolidation and publication of the work of an existing Reading group and in the development of a research programme investigating interdisciplinary links in the study of health inequalities.

A group of academics in Cambridge have been pioneering an exciting new approach to the study of health inequalities. The purpose of this new role is to assist in the consolidation of the activities of an existing Reading group which has been doing this work and in the further development of a research programme. The research programme will investigate interdisciplinary links in the study of health inequalities. The appointee will support a group of senior academics in Cambridge in the preparation of academic and policy papers for publication, developing grant proposals and engaging senior undergraduate and postgraduate students at the College in this work.

The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level in Sociology, Psychology, History, Biology, Epidemiology, Public Health/Primary Care, History and Philosophy of Science or related area, and will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of their substantive discipline. They will also have experience of undertaking research independently and of writing and preparing papers for publication.

The College offers a competitive benefits package including membership of the USS pension scheme, 36 days' annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) pro rata, free lunch (up to a specified monetary limit) and free parking close to the College site.

The post is advertised as a 9 month contract for 30 hours per week. However, candidates who wish to work full-time for a period of 7.5 months instead will also be considered.
