Center for the History of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
The Sydney Brenner Research Scholarship is awarded each year to an independent scholar, researcher, or creative writer seeking to advance knowledge in the history of molecular biology, genetics, or biotechnology. The recipient of the scholarship will have access to the extensive archival collections held in the recently established Genentech Center for the History of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Endowed by the Francis Goelet Charitable Trust in 2006 in honor of Nobel laureate Sydney Brenner, this scholarship offers a stipend of $6,000 - $10,000 to fund travel and other associated expenses with the use of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Library and Archives collections for their research needs. The fund was initiated by student and protégé of Brenner, Dr. Philip Goelet, to pay tribute to his mentor. Space for working with our archive collections will be provided. The research and the results is expected to be presented by the Brenner scholar in a talk, meeting, presentation on a web site or other educational endeavor and culminate in a scholarly book, article, or other project.
