It is with great pleasure that the faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Fez invites you to participate in the above conferences on the History of Medicine within Muslim Civilisation. This event is organised jointly by the University of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah, the International Society of the History of Islamic Medicine (http://www.ishim.net/) and the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation, UK (FSTC)/ ( http://www.muslimheritage.com/),(www.1001inventions.org)
It’s an occasion to evoke the bright aspects of the scientific and intellectual heritage of our civilization and shed light on some of its features in Fez city.
Fez, the majestic spiritual and political capital of Morocco in the Middle Ages, founded by Idris I in 789 AD, is a great city of outstanding Islamic culture. It has the best preserved old area in the Arab world: the sprawling, labyrinthine medina of Fes Al-Bali, which is incidentally also the world’s largest car-free urban zone. In 1981, UNESCO listed Fes Al Bali as a world heritage site under the name of Medina of Fez. It is famous for being home to the world’s oldest university, the Qarawiyyin University. Fez has numerous madrassas (i.e. schools for Islamic studies), museums, handcraft shops, the oldest extant water clock, and many other outstanding monuments.
We are working towards making this congress a highly creative and valuable contribution to the history of medical science. It is crucial that the Fez congress be not just an opportunity for presenting interesting papers, but also an important occasion to develop new projects, connect with old colleagues and meet new scholars.
The 2016 congress promises to be an amazing experience, both scientific-wise and research-wise. It will also be a great opportunity to step into the charm, history and culture of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
