Call for Papers

Medica: the Society for the Study of Healing in the Middle Ages  invites the submission of paper abstracts for sponsored panels at the centennial meeting of the

American Association for the History of Medicine,

Boston 2025: May 1-4


Medica is soliciting paper abstracts for two panels:


Pre-Modern Pharmacy & Recipes: From Dioscorides and Galen to Paracelsus and Culpepper, this panel explores the role of all manner of materia medica in premodern health and healing. Papers exploring ancient, medieval, and early modern healing welcomed as are global and comparative perspectives.


Women’s Heath and Healing: This panel explores topics related to the health and healing of women throughout their life cycle. Papers exploring medical concerns from general female health, fertility, childbirth, and abortion practices into perimenopause and menopause.


Please submit abstracts of approximately 300 words for 20-minute papers to medievalmedica@gmail.com by Friday, October 4, 2024. The proposal should also include your contact information, academic affiliation, and a short biography. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
