Purpose and Main Duties
This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to join the core team of the new Wellcome Trust-funded Investigator Award on ‘Sexual Violence, Medicine, and Psychiatry’. This project, led by Professor Joanna Bourke (Birkbeck), brings together an interdisciplinary team to investigate the medical and psychiatry aspects of sexual violence, including rape and sexual abuse. Working in close collaboration with the team, the postdoctoral researcher will undertake research on an aspect of sexual violence that involves the medical and/or psychiatric professions. The Fellow’s research should be linked to at least one of five research streams: medicine and the law; medical professionals (including police surgeons, FMEs, nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, forensic scientists, and so on); psychiatric classification systems (From ‘Psychopathia Sexualis’ to the DSM/ICD); psychiatric aftermaths; and child sexual abuse.
Candidate Requirements
You will have a background in a relevant social science or humanities discipline such as history, medical humanities, law, sociology, philosophy, political science, psychology, or anthropology.
The minimum requirements for selection are a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, or evidence that the PhD will be completed prior to the start date of the post.

Further Information
Salary: Grade 7, Spine Point 34 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £40,263 per annum.
This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and fixed term for 3 years. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 12 months.
