Daydreams and Nightmares
The Third Annual Western University Graduate History Conference
Call for Papers
We are currently accepting paper abstracts for the third annual Graduate
History Conference at Western University in London, Ontario which will
be held on October 18th and 19th 2013.
Participants are encouraged to explore how the theme daydreams and
nightmares relates to their area of study, looking at either one or both
ends of this spectrum. History contains countless instances of change
and conflict, both which can easily be framed within the spectrum of
lightness and darkness, and optimism and pessimism. The conference
provides an excellent forum for Masters and PhD students to present
their research and receive feedback in a positive environment.
We welcome a broad range of perspectives and approaches as this year’s
theme Daydreams and Nightmares can be widely interpreted to encompass
the following:
• Idealised and/or Traumatic memories
• War and Society
• Ethnicity and Immigration
• Women and Gender
• Age and Family
• Hopes and Struggles of labour/working groups
• Digital and Public History
• Environmental History
• First Nations History
• Religion and Religious groups
• Politics and the State
• Legal History
• History of Medicine
• Protest and Change
• Real and Imagined Space
We are pleased to announce that our keynote speakers this year are
Stuart Henderson, author of the award-winning Making the Scene:
Yorkville and Hip Toronto in the 1960s, and Western University’s Digital
History expert and author of The Archive of Place, William Turkel.
Interested applicants should submit a short biography and a 250 word
abstract to westernhistorygradconference@gmail.com by Friday, July 26th.
