Dr Martin Atherton (University of Central Lancashire)
13th May 2013
In this paper, the development, growth and decline of social clubs for deaf people in the UK will be outlined, together with their central role in maintaining a sense of cohesion and community amongst British deaf people. The consequences of their decline will be explored, together with some suggestions on what this may mean for the continuing existence of the British deaf community.
