Call for Papers
When: April 26-27, 2013
Where: Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA
The organizing committee for the 48th annual Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology invites paper proposals from graduate students. The Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology was founded in 1965 to encourage the stimulating and collegial exchange of ideas within the HPS community, in a friendly setting. Since its inception, it has been a venue for graduate students to gain experience and feedback on the presentation of their dissertation research in front of a recept- ive and critical audience in an intimate and constructive atmosphere.
The 48th Annual Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology will be held on April 26th and 27th at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. This event is sponsored by the MBL History and Philosophy of Science program, in collaboration with ASU. The seminar will open at 1pm on Friday afternoon with a workshop on informatics and computational history and philosophy of science, and an introduction to the MBL.
Submission:
We invite proposals for presentations from graduate students working in any area of the history of the life sciences. We ask that presentations be based on dissertation research. Abstracts (up to 300 words) must be submitted via e-mail to jas-bio@asu.edu by the end of day Friday, March 1st, 2013. Please indicate whether (a) you have presented at a previous JAS-Bio meeting, and (b) you have presented the proposed paper at any other conference. People near the completion of their dissertations who have not presented at JAS-Bio before will receive priority, but all graduate students are welcome and encouraged to submit.
Selections will be announced by Friday, March 8th.
Financial Support:
Financial support is available for graduate students by application, thanks to an NSF Embryo Project Training Grant. See website for more information.
