VITAL SIGNS
The State of the Art and Science of Medicine and Society National Conference for Physician-Scholars in the Social Sciences and Humanities

5th Biennial Conference
April 12-14th, 2013
University of California, San Francisco

The National Conference for Physician-Scholars in the Social Sciences and Humanities is a biennial meeting of future physician-scholars whose dual clinical training and scholarly work focuses on the intersections of the social sciences and humanities with medicine. This conference provides a venue for graduates, trainees, and prospective MD/PhD students and their allies to share their scholarship, build community and to foster dialogue over the issues and work in which physician-scholars engage.

The coordinating committee invites you to submit an abstract of original research for presentation at our April 2013 meeting in San Francisco.
Research presentations will feature scholars, medical, graduate, and prospective students working in a wide range of disciplines. Preference will be given to research that addresses the many articulations among health, culture, and society, in particular presentations seeks to integrate clinical and scholarly perspectives in a meaningful way. We encourage individuals at all career stages to submit.

Presentations may take the form of a 15-20 minute talk or poster. We ask that you limit your submission to 350 words, including: primary research question, methodological orientation, and general conclusions.

This conference is also a forum to help generate new ideas that bridge medicine, the social sciences and humanities.  Suggestions for film, photography, creative writing, workshop suggestions, and/or other forms of engagement are welcome.

DEADLINE: February 1st, 2013
